Mine has just been blocked because of the upgrading to ios10

THank you all for your input. I won't be able to upgrade my iPad2 to IOS 10. Now I'm curious; how long will the iPad2 be supported (e.g., End of Life (EOL)).

No, I didn't get that far. I was trying to do my homework before trying to install IOS 10.
Your iPad 2 will continue to work as it always has. Whatever apps you have on your iPad 2 now will continue to update for, at least, another year or so or maybe even two.
App developers always create their apps to run on a minimum iOS version, so your iPad will still work, as usual for some time.
So, you WILL get, at least, a total of 6 years out of your iPad 2!
You will only not be able to run any new apps that have been designed to initially run under iOS 10.
The apps you have now will continue to update and improve, to some degree under your current iOS 9.3.5.
Your iPad 2 has had 5 years of upgrades and updates.
You don't reallly have to worry about purchasing another iPad for, at least, another year, maybe two!
